2000-luvun alussa parikymppinen historiasta kiinnostunut fysiikan opiskelija Ville kiinnostui historiallisesta miekkailusta. Ville halusi perehtyä lajiin entistä paremmin, ja etsinnän jälkeen tilasi sopivan miekan yhdysvaltalaisesta verkkokaupasta. Miekka ei koskaan saapunut perille asti, vaikka rahat menivätkin. Nuori mies suuttui ja tuumasi, että täytyy olla helpompikin tapa hankkia harrastusvälineitä.
Ville ryhtyi selvittelemään asiaa, tuumasi oman yrityksen perustamista, säästi kesätyörahat ja teetätti niillä testiksi pienen erän miekkoja ja tikareita, jotka myi eteenpäin ystäville, tuttaville sekä ensimmäisille ihan oikeille asiakkaille (tärkeä hetki jokaisen yrittäjän polulla). Pian yrityskuvioihin mukaan lähti myös sisko Elina ja kahden vuosikymmenen aikana tämä perheyrityksenä pysynyt firma on kasvanut Suomen suurimmaksi historiallisten replika-aseiden ja -tavaroiden kaupaksi työllistäen jo useampia historiafaneja.
2013 Rautaportti avasi myös myymälän Kaarinaan, Varsinais-Suomeen, kun haluttiin antaa asiakkaille mahdollisuus päästä testaamaan ja tutkimaan miekkoja, vaatteita ja muita aarteita. Rautaporttilaiset kun rakastavat museokauppoja, niin vihdoin saatiin oma museokauppa pyöritettäväksi, vaikka toki museo kyljestä puuttuukin 🙂

Hyvä kauppa. Keskiaikaista asukokonaisuutta kävin katsomassa ja sellainen mukaan tarttui: Kengät, housut, nuttu ja vyö. Hinta oli kohtuullinen. Asioin toistekin.
Yksi parhaista kaupoista koskaan ikinä missään. Ostaisin puljun tyhjäksi jos olisin rikas.

Tilasin poitsulle puisen ja muovisen lasten miekat ja positiivisesti yllättynyt kuinka laadukkaat olivat edulliseen hintaan nähden. Ei saa aivan helpolla päreiksi miekkoja joten ei tarvitse olla uusia ostamassa alvariinsa. Verkkokaupassa kattava valikoima sekä hyvät maksuvaihtoehdot esim.PayPal mitä harvemmin löytyy suomalaisista verkkokaupoista. Itse kävin noutamassa tuotteet myymälästä ja pikaisella visiitillä olisin myymälässäkin voinut hetken hypistellä ja ihmetellä erikoisuuksia mitä oli aika määrä liikkeessä, vaikkei iso myymälä ollutkaan.
